Orientation workshops for the fresher’s was conducted on 23rd July 2017 at Vishranti Bunglow Thane (West). The same was repeated for the benefit of outstation students on 15th August, 2017. Total 97 students attended the workshops along with some parents which was really heartening.
Program conception & facilitation was done by Geeta Shah, Vandana Shirke & Dr. Archana Damle, along with active participation of volunteers & Alumni Students.
In spite of rains, large number of students from far flung areas like Bhusaval, Beed ,Pune and Murbad attended the workshop. Program begin with a warm welcome to all by Dr. Archana who also explained the rationale of the workshop:
- To know about VSM
- Its primary objective
- What it offers to the students and
- Most importantly for students to understand their responsibilities as a new member of VSM family.
Our senior most Founder member of VSM, Bhau Nanivadekar addressed the fresher’s and emphasized on importance of time & punctuality followed by Geeta Shah took all through the nine year journey of the organization.
Students introduced themselves followed by reading of “Pratidnya Patra” which explains the do’s & dont’s for VSM students. The concept of Karyakarta Palak was very beautifully explained by Dr. Anita Mokashi with the help of an interesting power point presentation.
The important role of our donor, relevant committees working for students, the importance of Calendar events including workshops, Shibirs, career guidance, Be Frank & monthly meetings etc were emphasized by Dr. Archana. The students were also made aware of the various facilities available like hostel, Mediclaim, library, laptops etc
An alumni of VSM (Kavita Bidve) shared her experience and how it made her achieve her goals & made her a confidant person.
Communication Session was conducted by Anil Harolikar & Omkar Gogate, explaining the basic concepts & importance of communication in VSM context with help of role plays viz 1. KP-student communication (enacted wonderfully by Varsha Joshi (KP) & Prathamesh Aiyare (Alumni Student) and 2.Career guidance (Varsha Joshi – Geeta Shah) were extremely effective.
As the money received from donors is the pillar of VSM & is used very judiciously for the students. All the basic fundas related to accounts were explained along with practicals by Nivedita Joshi.
Importance of performance evaluation of students at the end of every academic year was explained by Vandana Shirke. Shri Gopal Athavale came all the way from Sahapur for the workshop and gave important inputs.
The concluding session included a quiz on VSM taken by Geeta Shah and the precise replies made it clear that students understood the basic information about VSM, it’s activities and their specific responsibilities. The response from students in the Feedback forms reflected the success of the program.
For the above workshops the format was modified and concepts were explained with the help of power point presentations and effective role plays. This made the whole workshop interesting & helped students to understand VSM lot more easily which was evident from their feedback & testimonials, as given below:
