A workshop was organized on “Overview of Careers in Science” for 11th & 12th Science students on April 15, 2018 at Thane

Every year VSM has a significant number of students enrolled in the Science stream & What to do after 12th?? is a major question faced by the students & their Mentors. This is an extremely important decision to make & many a times incorrect choices are made due to incomplete information.
Hence, VSM tried to take an important step towards this direction and organized a workshop on “Overview of Careers in Science” by experts in respective faculties to explain about the various career options & help the students in making an informed career choice.
The workshop was attended by 26 students and 18 Mentors. The details of medical & paramedical options, their scope & preparation for the entrance exams, NEET was explained. Similarly, compassionate nature, patience required for taking Nursing as a profession, the admission process & future scope was emphasized to the participants.
Engineering, the most sought after career choice was the subject dealt with in details. The aptitude, how to make the choice of stream & colleges, the present job scenario etc was very well explained by the Faculty.
When should one opt for basic sciences, aptitude needed & what should be the subjects of choice depending on the interest & scope was touched upon. Some common options, which can also be taken up by students of any stream and in today’s time have good job opportunities were told to the audience.
The interactive sessions wherein the faculty members answered the questions of students & mentors was very effective and led to lot of information sharing. The importance of the mentor’s participation in such workshops was stressed upon, as they are the ones who will be guiding their student & helping him in all the admission formalities.
The next step now is to conduct one on one career counseling for our XII students, after their results & we expect it will really help them choose the right career path.
