VSM, Thane has been catering to the needs of children residing in the remote areas of Vidarbha over half a decade. With the total reaching 12 students and 7 volunteers, there was a need to bring them collectively under the VSM umbrella and thus the 5th branch of VSM was inaugurated at Nagpur on 27th January 2017 by Bhau Naniwadekar, the Founder and Trustee of VSM. All this was possible because of the VSM’s veteran Volunteer couple Mr and Mrs Ingole, who wholeheartedly agreed to shoulder the responsibility of being the coordinators.
A team comprising of Managing Committee members, volunteers and VSM Alumni travelled all the way to Nagpur to be part of this milestone and the ceremony was conducted in the presence of local volunteers, students, their parents and invitees.
VSM always emphasizes on the importance of having a sense of belongingness and connectivity with its students, even if they are thousands of mile apart. Hence, on the eve of inauguration, the team also visited Vasantrao Naik Govt. Medical College, Yevatmal to meet and interact with all the medical students of VSM. Dr. Anita Mokashi gave an all-encompassing presentation touching each and every aspect of a medical student’s life. VSM Team also visited homes of three new students at Nagpur and Ms. Geeta Shah, VSM Trustee gave a compassionate advice about “life” to all the families.
The introduction and welcome remarks of the programs were delivered by Mr. Arun Ingole. Bhau walked us through the beautiful journey of VSM highlighting the uniqueness of the relationship between a Mentor(Karyakarta-Palak) and a Student. Dr. Archana Damle effectively explained the various programs conducted by VSM as well as the participation and responsibilities of its students and Mentors as members of the VSM family.
Mrs. Madhuri Ingole, the senior-most among the Nagpur-group, spoke at length about her six yearlong association with VSM. She spoke very emotionally about her sons and they too poured out their hearts. Mr. Mangesh Joshi along with some of the new Mentors and Parents also expressed their thoughts. Mrs Geeta Shah in her crisp style welcomed the new students to the VSM family. While encouraging the students to be frank and open in communicating their problems; she stressed upon the need to follow the VSM guidelines.
All the sessions were open and interactive, where volunteers, students and parents opened their hearts, emotionally acknowledging and expressing gratitude towards the good work of VSM.
The event concluded with everyone vowing to work hard to achieve their goals and making VSM, an education focused NGO to help more children achieve their dreams.
